Although today’s verdict in State v. Chauvin is a step toward justice, it is also a time to reflect on how far we as a community and a nation still need to go to dismantle systemic racism. The recent murder of Daunte Wright and countless acts of aggression against members of the BIPOC community are further examples of our society’s long history of disregard for–and active violence against–Black and Brown bodies. Today, we remember George Floyd and renew our commitment to creating a more just, safe and equitable future for all.
