Cornerstone’s Services

Minnesota Day One Crisis Line

Cornerstone’s Day One Call Center hosts Minnesota’s 24/7 hotline and text line that provides support for victims / survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking. You can talk to an advocate over the phone, via text, by email or in an online chat at any time for support, to ask questions or to be connected to the Minnesota service or agency that’s closest to you. Contact the Minnesota Day One Crisis Line for options and immediate access to safe housing and other resources. 

Minnesota Crime Victim Support Line

Cornerstone’s Day One Call Center hosts Minnesota’s 24/7 support line and text line for victims of crime. You can talk to an advocate at any time over the phone, via text, by email or in an online chat to ask questions and get support, resources and referrals throughout Minnesota. 

Safe Housing and Crisis Support

Cornerstone’s emergency shelter is a safe place for adults and their children escaping a dangerous or escalating situation at home.

While in our emergency shelter, all of your basic needs will be met and you will have access to all of Cornerstone’s programming. We may also be able to foster your pet at an undisclosed location to keep them safe too.

Individual Advocacy

Our advocates are available by appointment to meet with you individually to discuss your situation and next steps, including creating a safety plan. Our work together can include discussing your current concerns such as safety, housing and finances and identifying resources at Cornerstone or other agencies we partner with to get you what you need. Our youth advocates can meet with your children for age-appropriate support to help them cope with the violence they have witnessed and to learn about safe, healthy relationships. We also have specialized services for sexually-exploited youth.

Support Groups

Cornerstone’s support groups are designed to facilitate a sense of community with other survivors. Due to staff capacity, we offer online support groups to female identifying victims/survivors of domestic violence. We look forward to expanding our support group offerings as our capacity and participant interest grows.

Joining a Group: To ensure the safety of our support groups participants, Cornerstone has an intake process for all group types. For more information and to inquire about joining a group, leave a voicemail at 952.646.6554 and our intake specialist will return your call within two business days.

Interested in a New Group: Cornerstone is always open to creating new support groups, based on our community’s needs and our current capacity. If there is a type of support group we do not offer that you would be interested in, please fill out our New Support Group Interest Form. Please note that we will not be launching any new groups until we have enough participants interested and able to attend.

Help with Housing, Finances and Finding a Job

Our advocates are available to help you find housing, search for a job and to learn strategies to be financially stable. We know that the ability to leave your abuser and to stay safe is often tied to financial independence. We can help you make a plan.

Financial Planning/Economic Education

Cornerstone offers support to you as you work to create a financial plan for you and your family. We can meet with you individually and support you as you attend a series of financial classes or workshops to help you manage your finances, create a budget, understand credit and learn about banking and investing. Workshops take place at Cornerstone offices, partner agencies and online via Zoom.

Therapy

Cornerstone’s licensed therapists have expertise in helping adults and children and youth 6-17 explore and work through a variety of issues, and do so through creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can begin to overcome life’s challenges and live your authentic life. People come to us after experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking or general crime, and our therapy team uses collaborative, strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches as they listen, assist and support you with gaining insight into your life to achieve a sense of well-being. Our therapists believe in joining you wherever you are at in your journey and identifying goals that we can work together to achieve. We can help you with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, grief and loss, relationship concerns, processing through difficult life transitions and disrupted family functioning. Therapy is offered on an affordable sliding fee scale at our Bloomington location or via teletherapy.

Legal Advocacy

Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking. Cornerstone’s advocates can provide support and help guide you through the process. Our team can help you create a safety plan, assist with drafting a protective order and provide court accompaniment. While we are not attorneys, we provide support during civil court cases, criminal court cases and family court cases.

Specialized Support for Victims of Crime

If you, your family or your community has been affected by crime and violence, we may be able to help through support, resources and access to financial resources. Our full range of advocacy and crisis intervention is available for those who’ve experienced burglary, identity theft, homicide, robbery, fraud, auto theft, hate crimes and many other crimes.

Youth Advocacy

We know that violence can leave lasting effects on children and youth. Cornerstone offers a safe environment for children to increase their awareness about violence, express their emotions and learn healthy coping strategies. Cornerstone also provides prevention and advocacy for sexually exploited or at-risk youth and is a safe place to share stories, receive support and explore resources. 

Support Groups for Youth

Cornerstone’s youth support groups are a great way for children and youth to build trust and share feelings with peers who understand and may have a similar shared experience. Additional activities for youth, such as peer education groups, recreational activities and leadership opportunities are also available.

In-School Services for Students

Cornerstone’s School-based Services Program staff are in more than 20 schools in suburban Hennepin County, speaking with thousands of students each year and offering classroom education and individual support on the topics of dating violence, bullying, cyber-bullying, unhealthy anger, sexting, harassment and sexual violence. Parenting and Early Childhood

Experiencing or witnessing violence and abuse at home has a lasting impact on kids. Parents learn strategies for parenting children of all ages who have been exposed to adverse childhood experiences. Cornerstone’s advocates provide special activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. 

Therapy

Cornerstone’s therapists provide assessment, treatment and support for children and youth ages 6-17 and their families who have been impacted by abuse. The focus of their work is to help children process traumatic events and provide healthy coping skills to assist with the healing journey.
