Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals

Cornerstone offers a variety of one-time and long-term volunteer opportunities for individuals looking to donate their time and talents.

Childcare Provider
Play, create art, read books, and tend to infants while their parents attend support groups. Shifts are 1.5 hours on Monday evenings, Tuesday days and evenings and Thursday days.

Maintenance / Landscaping
Share your skills or trade to help maintain the emergency shelter and transitional housing units. Assist with landscaping needs to keep our grounds welcoming for clients. No experience is required.

Volunteer Assistant
Support the volunteer department by assisting with database entry, organizing volunteer groups, clerical support and participating in special events.

Event Support
Support our development department by assisting at special events geared toward raising awareness and support for Cornerstone’s programs. Tasks may include pre-event support, room set up, staffing information tables, or photographing the event. Most events are during the evening or on weekends.

Shelter Advocate
Answer calls to our 24-Hour helpline and provide assistance and support to the women and families in our shelter.

Volunteer Opportunities for Groups

Make-A-Meal
Prepare and serve a meal for 40-50 Cornerstone clients on Tuesday night from approximately 4-7 p.m. with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. A great opportunity for groups.

Host a Party
Use your imagination and creativity to organize a party for children in our shelter and community programs. Crafts, games, face painting, art projects are some of the many activities groups have done. Good for groups of any size.

Summer Picnic
Play outside and BBQ with our guests in the summer! Cornerstone will provide the grills. Good for groups of 4-10 people.

Donation Drives
Organizing a donation drive is a great way to help Cornerstone’s clients. The drive can be for a variety of needed goods, including baby products or household items. Learn more about our Current Needs.

Sanitizing
Clean and sanitize our lounge areas and playrooms to help eliminate the spread of germs. Generally, we ask that groups be no more than 10 people.

Holiday Shop
Every December, our clients’ children have the opportunity to choose and wrap gifts to give to their parent and siblings. These gifts come from our generous donors and volunteers. During December, we have many volunteer opportunities including:

  • Serving as a collection site where coworkers can donate toys and gifts for moms and dads
  • Decorating Cornerstone’s lower level
  • Creating and stuffing stockings
  • Being an “elf” and helping the children pick out gifts
  • Sorting and organizing gifts
  • Organizing a gift donation drive or a hats and mittens drive
