Current Needs

Often, individuals and families escaping danger come to Cornerstone with only the clothes on their backs.

It is a turbulent, scary time for our clients and simply having all of their basic needs met upon arriving at Cornerstone offers comfort and shows we care. The following items are in short supply right now. Please check the list often. We can accept donations of new, unused items only. Thank you!

  • Needed by 9/12/2016: Fabric markers/paint and plain yellow, beige or white t-shirts in adult and youth sizes for a Domestic Violence Awareness Month project. We’ll be using them for survivors of domestic violence of all ages to tell their story. http://www.clotheslineproject.org/ 
  • Back to school items: 
    • Alarm clocks
    • Large boxes of Kleenex
    • Large white poster boards
    • Backpacks
  • Screen printing of T-Shirts needed by 9/6/2016 for after school programming
  • Air mattresses (twin or full size)
  • Sheet sets (twin, full and queen size)
  • Healthy snacks for summer programming (apples, bananas, water bottles, juice, fruit snacks, yogurt, crackers etc)
  • Tricycles or riding toys for toddlers
  • Swim suits for women and children — all sizes needed
  • Women’s underwear sizes 5 to 9
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Towels (bath towels and beach towels)
  • Can openers
  • Pizza cutters
  • Baby wipes
  • Help us furnish our teen lounge — we need these items

  • Childcare at our Bloomington location (volunteers must be 18+):
    • Mondays 6:30 pm to 8 pm (second/fourth Monday of each month or first/third/fifth Monday of each month)-Need 4 volunteers!
    • Tuesdays 1 pm to 2:30 pm (weeks 2/4 or weeks 1/3/5 or every week)
    • Thursdays 10 am to 12 pm (weeks 1/3/5)
    • Wednesdays 6:30 pm to 8 pm Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2 and 9
    • Thursdays 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29
    • Saturdays 9:30 am to 12 pm Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22
  • After-school Programming: Help mentor school-age students at Cornerstone on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30pm, September 12 to November 10 (choose one day a week)
  • Pick up Starbucks–Richfield pastry donation on Mondays or Wednesday mornings and drop off at Cornerstone.
  • Gardening: Help keep our lovely peace garden weed-free (flexible timing)
  • Teach basic car ownership skills: Work with Community and Economic Empowerment staff
  • Maintenance Projects: Work with Cornerstone’s maintenance coordinator on weekly projects

  • Decorate the “Spooky Room” for Halloween during the day on October 26
  • Facilitate a Craft Project for Adults: We have clients who want to give back while they’re at Cornerstone by making tie-blankets. We have the fabric but need people to coordinate the project. 
  • Toy sanitizing: Help keep our kid space healthy! (good for all ages with flexible timing)
  • Gardening: Great for all ages of volunteers
  • Provide manicures and bake cookies (timing is flexible)
  • Organize a Family Activity: Organize an activity for moms and kids at Cornerstone. Ideas include snacks, crafts, games, face painting, cookies decorating, manicures for mom etc. We can choose a date and time that works for your group.
  • Host a donation drive for healthy snack packs or food shelf staples; good for all ages of volunteers

Items Needed Year Round

  • Gift certificates for gas, car repair, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, grocery stores and other retail stores to meet specific needs of our clients.
  • Used cell phones (Donated cell phones are sent into Funding Factory to be recycled and Cornerstone receives payment for each qualifying item.)
  • New and recycled ink cartridges
  • Used, broken, or unwanted gold and silver jewelry

Donation Drives

Are you looking for an opportunity to gather coworkers, friends, family, neighbors, a scout troop or members of a religious organization together for a good cause? Consider hosting a donation drive of new, unused items. The following are ideas for themed items our shelter and community program need year-round. We are happy to provide fliers or additional information about Cornerstone to make your donation drive a success.

Good Night, Sleep Tight: New sheets, bath towels, washcloths, pillows and pillow cases, pajamas in all sizes for women and children, robes and slippers, alarm clocks, etc.

Baby Shower: Diapers, baby wipes, bottles, baby food, onesies, new socks, shoes, teethers, baby monitors, baby wash, shampoo, lotion, etc.

Breakfast Bundles: Non-perishable food items, individually packaged cereal cups, granola bars, fruit snacks, fruit cups, etc.

Winter Warmth: Waterproof mittens, warm hats, scarfs, boots and waterproof coats in all sizes for women, teens, and children.

Daily Living: (Full sized) toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hair brushes, picks, toilet paper, laundry soap, dish soap, chapstick, etc.

Summer Sunshine: Swimming suits in all sizes for women, teens and children, flip flops, beach towels, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.
